In the summer of 1694, Mr. Neville, a promising and ambitious artist, visits the house and property of the landowner Mr. Herbert Compton Anstey, Wiltshire.  Overcoming the initial repair, as their capacity for flattery only surpasses its vaunted claim to draw the truth, Mr Neville receives a commission, but not the landowner but to his wife. A contract is signed and, in exchange for twelve drawings of the house with the moat and the gardens, Mr. Neville Mrs. Herbert persuaded to give free rein to enjoy their hospitality more intimate. This will be wrapped in a domestic intrigue you become suspicious not only of adultery but also of many other things.
